The weird thing about The Last Vampire is that it looks a bit like a Scooby-Doo movie. The art is a bit cartoony, but it's never quite as cheesy as it could be. The animation is very well-done and the action is well-choreographed. It actually has a good sense of humor, and I love the somber lead-in that reveals the love triangle or reveals that the heroes are just in need of some mints. I love how they spin that in the end: It's more an American movie than it is a Scooby-Doo, but when it is revealed as something like it, it's not actually too far off.
The Last Vampire is a very stylish movie, and it looks like it's just full of style. There are big, bloody explosions and everything is sort of green and gothic, but I actually like the aesthetic. There are a bunch of gadgets and machines that have not been seen anywhere before (which is a nice introduction to sci-fi gadgets!), and I like that even though they're not real, they have a certain realism. The battle scenes are also wonderfully choreographed (mostly thanks to Masaaki Yuasa), and I love how it's so different from the other fight scenes. The Asian animation (a mix of Japanese and Korean) gives it an distinct style all its own, and considering how Western it is, it's really fantastic. The humans have a simple, almost non-threatening look. They have a brownish, muscular look with golden highlights and they look like they have a lot of muscle mass. The vampires, however, have a very sleek, graceful look with pale skin and their shadows seem to hover and float just a bit.
